Mare Ridden Performance Test (IBOP)

The aim of the Ridden Mare Performance Test is to provide owners and breeders with a performance benchmark to assist in the selection process of utilising the best mares for breeding. On completion of the test a numerical score will be calculated for each mare. Certificates will be issued to verify the result by the SSH Studbook Manager at a later date. Scoring may take account of age and be biased toward potential.

NB Ster mares that successfully complete a mare performance test with good results will be eligible for Keur status on the provision that she produces a 1st or second premium foal. Successful

  • Keur mares will be awarded an additional £100 cash awarded if she has already received the £200 Ster Cash Award.
  • Mares that receive Keur status and are successfully x-rayed will be elegible for a further £100 and Prok and Elite status.

Full details are availible in the StudBook Guidelines.

The test is voluntary and open to all mares and includes:

  • In hand: Assessment of the mare for type, conformation, movement and temperament.
  • Dressage: to be scored on evaluation of gaits, athleticism, talent and attitude as a dressage horse.
  • Jumping: Under saddle and loose, judged on take-off, technique, scope and talent as a jumping horse.

  • Mares should be free from hereditary defect and disease on entry.

The owner of the mare can request that the width and height of the fences be altered. This request must be made on the entry form with the understanding that these circumstances will necessitate riding last.

Once the first horse has commenced the test no complaint can be lodged regarding the course.
