The charge is £65 for the Open Day, 28th May 2008. All who care about the health and wellbeing of their horses are encouraged to attend, they will feel the payment is well justified.

Tremendous Success for SSH Stallion Tartan Special

Tartan Special - 2008 U.A.E. advanced Dressage Champion

SSH graded Stallion Tartan Special won the Advanced Dressage Horse Championship at the United Arab Emirates Dressage Championship show (24th-25th March 2008) and for the second year running, he gained the highest percentage of any horse (novice, elementary, medium, advanced/medium and advanced) thoughout the 2 day show with a 74.7% victory.

The Championships are pegged at the Prix St Georges level involving 2 elements, the compulsory test and the freestyle to music. Each test consists of 28 movements and each movement is judged out of 10 by a panel of FEI adjudicators and the final result is converted to a percentage. Lynn Al-Redha, who has lived in Dubai for nearly 28 years, produced Scotty (Tartan Special) from when he was a baby. "It gives me great satisfaction that we won as it is confirmation that we must be doing something right". On Scotty's temperament, Lynn stated, all credit must go to him. He's a showman and makes it easy. He's a little prone to ad libbing but I wouldn't want to change that or he wouldn't be the horse he is. He's going to be a big star and will definitely go on to bigger tournaments

Dabbs New Year Show - Age Class Championships

The Young Horse Finals were hosted by Dabbs AC as part of their final Senior BSJA Show of 2007. The Show began on Saturday 29 December when the qualifiers for the Finals of the Four and Five Year Old and Six and Seven Year Old Classes were held. The Show continued for the next three and a half days. The Ne'er Day classes did not start until 1.30 pm, unsurprisingly as tickets for the Dance on the previous evening had sold like hot cakes.

On 30th December the 4 Year Old class was on a judged system, the judges being international riders Paul Barker who came first in the Grade C Championship on Sonybanta at Dabbs Hogmany Show in 2006, and Tom Davin of Ireland. Both seemed impressed with the horses brought forward.

Scottish Sports Horse PIO administrator, Jaqueline Aird scribed for the judges. The final score brought a tie between Shona Robertson riding Fa'hills Little Miss and Andrew Bonelli-Baird on Anique Wacintha, each having a score of 177. The higher jumping score, governed the result, meaning that First Place went to Fahills Little Miss, with Anique Wacintha Second but receiving the Scottish Sports Horse rug as the highest placed Four Year Old Scottish Sports Horse. This gelding is by Corland by Cor de la Bryère, his dam Jacintha by G Ramiro Z, whose dam was sired by Cottage Son. Third was Scottish Sports Horse Whisky Mac ridden by Scott Brash and owned by Jenny Herries. The scores of all these competitors were very close.

In the 5 Year Old Class Vanity Gold, by Odermus R, by Calido, dam Jenifer by Wolfgang, dam sire, Voltaire, ridden by Martin Arnott, and owned by Gavin Russell, won the Scottish Sports Horse Rug.

The 6 Year Old and 7 Year Old Final held on 31st December as a handicap was won by Four Faults, ridden by David Harland and owned by Des Le Marquand. He was awarded the Scottish Sports Horse rug for the highest placed Six Year Old Scottish Sports Horse while the rug for the Seven Year Old went to Scottish Sports Horse Titi D'Oase, ridden by Lucy Guild and owned by Fiona Thompson, who came Fourth over all, second placed being T D'Arco ridden by Douglas Duffin and owned by M Taggart. Douglas Duffin also came Third on U Guardsman Gold, owned by J Kemp, while Fifth place was taken by Just Call Me Max, ridden by Nicola Sheard and owned by N Sheard.

North O the Border Foal Show

Miami Goldrush Judges Susan Lanigan O’Keefe and Marily Power, of the Suma Stud, Co Kilkenny, Ireland had the difficult task of judging a spectacular turnout of sport horse and pony foals by Scottish Breeders at the Scottish Sports Horse "North O The Border Foal Show held at Dabbs Equestrian Center on Saturday the 24th Of November 2007.

Entries were plentiful with 50 contestants split into four classes, all hoping to take home a part of the £1100 prize fund.

The first class of the day commencing at 10am was won by Hugh Patterson's outstanding home bred golden colt foal Miami Goldrush, sired by "Solway Cruise" a son of home owned SSH Approved stallion Goldhills out of Chippie. This strong well developed colt picked up scores of 8/10 for conformation 8/10 for movement and 19/20 for attitude and presence and was presented with the SSH North O The Border Sports Pony Foal Champions' sash and prize money.

Hugh also picked up the 2nd Place and Reserve Champion Rosette and prize money with filly foal Miami Gemsone also sired by Solway Cruise this time out of Eskide Amethyst by Sufton Romany Lore scoring 8/10 for conformation, 9/10 for movement and 16/10 for attitude and presence!

Third place and a special rosette for best sports pony foal sired by an SSH Stallion went to John Dunlop's home-bred filly sired by his own SSH pony stallion, Kerrys Boy son of home owned SSH pony stallion Hocki out of Ard Rayanne by Ard Conneely.

5th and sixth places were claimed by John Borthwick of Dunfermline with his two exquisite section A filly foals, Glenbrae Vermonth by Waxwing Hurricane out of Glenbrae Vicky a daughter of Tullibardine Brigadier and Glenbrae Bliss by Ceannaiteach Majestic by Phildon Cygnet out of Phildon by Phildon Basil.

The Fifth place went to colt foal Woodburys Harlequin, sired by Ferguson Uno, a son of the recently deceased Dutch NRPS approved sports pony Neron out of Waxwing Nightlight a daughter of Mowel View Mohawk owned and bred by P.J.Lillington of Edinburgh.

Entries were few in the older sport horse foal class, but not stopping at his previous classes's success, Hugh Patterson once again took first place with colt foal Early Boyde, out of a Cruising mare. This added a further £50 to his kitty bringing his days total to the grand sum of £290! This however was not Hugh's' last title of the day, the special rosette for best colt foal sired by home owned SSH stallion Hootcha's Boy by Tornado was added to his tally of success! But perhaps even more importantly, this shop window opportunity offered to Scottish Breeders by the SSH to advertise their stock for sale in the catalog resulted in the days Champion Pony Miami GoldRush being purchased by Harry Aird's daughter Hannah, as a future show jumping pony for herself.

Second place in this class went to Euro Vision a daughter of Irish Draft Stallion Euro out of Uno, a home bred mare by Secundus, This lovely filly bred by Jackie and Dugald-Low Mitchell of Balcormo Stud, was purchased earlier in the year by her sires owners Lynn and Dougie Crawford of Ladybank.

Class 4 attracted 18 entries, this was a tough class to judge due to the quality of foals presented but the judges made their decision and top scores and the overall Championship Title of Best Sport Horse Foal went to Dragons Den who scooped up the 1st place and Champions' Sash and prize fund totaling £200. This well developed colt foal caught the judges eye with his strong substantial frame and noble presence. Dragon's Den is by Broadstone West Country a son of Weltmeyer out of Key Decision, a daughter of Coolcorron Cool Diamond. Owner and breeder of this champion colt MR.D.E..Pearce of Roslin, stable manager at the Royal Dick Vet is a familiar face at the North O The Border foal show and took the Reserve Champion sports horse foal title with Accondy son, Bushman in 2002.

Harry Aird's SSH Listed stallion Otis, sire of last Years overall Champion Sports Horse Foal picked up the Special rosettes for highest placed colt and filly sired by an SSH Graded stallion, in the class of colts and fillies born between ther 1st of April and the 31st May 2007. The well connected black colt foal, Ciontis by Otis (Acorado I x Calido I) out of Emoncia Rose by Pion also took 2nd place and the filly foal Bogton Belle owned and bred by P. Kerr & J. McDonald out Kelly's Dream a daughter of yet another Listed SSH and Grade A show jumping stallion that had tremendous success with Scottish Rider Douglas Duffin, Dauntless Prince, was placed fourth. These same awards went to Colt Foal, Cracker Jack sired by Listed stallion De-Nero and Filly Foal Tayveiw Chancer sired by Registered SSH stallion TSJAKKA in class five of fillies and colts born after June 1st 2007.

Third place in this class went to the beautiful elegant and refined chestnut filly, Queen B Jx by Quicksilber a Quattro B son out of a Couleur Rubin daughter owned and bred by Jane Maxwell of Perth. With 5th Place being awarded to filly foal Come Easy, by Quite Easy out of The Lady VDL, by Glennridge owned and bred by MR & MRS. D. I. Low-Mitchell.

Grandor Legacy by the recently deceased and highly successful Dressage and Show umping SSH registered Stallion the Do-Ron, out of Grannista By Grannex owned and Bred by Nancy and Charlene Bell took the sixth place in this class.

Class five brought the show their Reserve Champion Sports Horse Foal from amongst another very strong class.
Bloodlines in this class included, progeny from famous International show jumping sires such as Concorde, the two Quidam De Revel Sons, Quite Easy, and Quasimodo Z, Niveau, Welton Justice, Calvaro Z, Conterno Grande and Solitaire to name but a few, but it was the well developed filly Cointreau by show jumping sire Concorde owned and bred by S. Ramsa of Polmont that impressed the judges with her feminine presence. Owner S. Ramsa was rewarded with the £50 first place and £100 Champion Rosette Reserve prize fund bringing her days tally to £150

Second place in the last class of the day went to yet another Euro filly foal, Hilltower Tiger Lilly out of Behest Silver Water by Silver Season owned and bred by S.Lawrie of Milnathort followed by H. Lahoars colt foal by L.C.Napenay a son of Salut Reve De Dimanche out of a Laroche mare placing third.

4th and 5th places went to the two elegant and light footed Quidam De Revel grand daughters, CaCanny by Quite Easy out of Musique by Secundus bred by J&D Low-Mitchell and Chardonnay by Quasimodo Z out of a Zuidhorn x Narcos II mare bred by Solaris Sport Horses of Collessie.

6th place out of this strong class of 18 went to Cavalla's Boy a colt foal once again by Crosstown Dancer son Euro, out of Cavalla by DRAMIRO owned and bred by Henrietta Forrest of Cupar.

It has to be said with such a tremendous turnout of quality foals bred for performance by Scottish Breeders traveling the length and breadth of Scotland to attend, that the "North O' The Border Foal Show" is now very much a National Calender event!
